SNUG AS A BUG

My appreciation for our most famous icon was enhanced by my experiences while working at the Daisy Hill Koala Centre.  I learnt of their behaviour, ecology and endearing qualities, but more importantly the omnipresent (man-made) threats affecting their survival.
So I'm going to dedicate a series of painting to these totally unique creatures of ours.  I hope it inspires you to learn a little bit more about them and what you might do to help........ http://www.savethekoala.com/

ULYSSES

I love butterflies myself, however I painted this picture as a gift for my Nan who turned 88 on 29 January.  I remembered that she had asked me ages ago to paint her a Dunk Island Butterfly, so I thought a birthday was the perfect opportunity to make good my promise!
Butterflies to me are like flying flowers.  Everyday without fail I see them gliding through my garden on their endless journey for just the right plant to visit........they never fail to bring a smile to my face.
So "Ulysses" is my first painting for 2011.

FOREST FANTASY - "PEEP"

Up until now I haven't had an interest or the confidence to draw or paint human figures.   I have now decided to give it a go as I am wanting to include fantasy creatures such as fairies, elves and the like into some of my works.  So this is my first attempt, using a baby photo of my daughter as a reference............even though it looks nothing like her.........I will get better!!

DRAGONFLIES SERIES 2

Here I go again with more Dragonflies!!!  I just love these wee creatures and can't seem to stop painting them.

I am enjoying the spontaneity of watercolours for my backgrounds, which I have discovered through reading techniques from professional watercolour artists.  I am very happy with the interesting effects created, coupled with more precise attention to detail for the subject of the painting.
